Music Ministry

Mission Statement

The Music Ministry Team assists in the magnification and multiplication of the gospel through Seattle to the ends of the earth by skillfully combining God’s Word with music, thereby motivating the gathered church to proclaim the gospel, to cherish God’s presence, and to live for the glory of God.

Ministry Vision

Worship is a rhythm of revelation and response. Our response to redemption encompasses much more than music and singing but certainly no less than. All throughout Scripture and the history of the church, singing is what saved people do. We sing about who God is and what God has done for us in Christ. Powerful transformation occurs when a company of the Redeemed gather to sing the same song. We unite our individual voices and spend extended periods of time expressing the same thoughts of and passions for God. All our external differences fade away and we celebrate the common ground we have in Christ Jesus.

Ministry Responsibilities

1. Gospel-Centered Music:
The Music Ministry Team shall cultivate a musical atmosphere in our worshiping gatherings that is emphatically gospel-centered. They will lead our congregation to sing songs that explicitly celebrate the theological content of the gospel.

2. Set Lists Reflecting the Redemptive Story Line:
The Music Ministry Team shall collaborate and arrange set lists that narrate the Bible’s redemptive story line of Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Recreation each week. Practically, the order of our songs should move thematically along these lines:

i) songs celebrating God’s attributes, nature, person;
ii) songs identifying/expressing our desperate need for God’s intervention;
iii) songs focusing on our redemption in Christ, exalting what God did for us in Jesus; and
iv) songs emphasizing a hopeful celebration of all that is to come upon Christ’s return.

3. Personal Preparation:
Members of the MMT shall meditate on that week’s sermon text in order to prepare their hearts to lead others in worship through song.

4. Practice:
Members of the MMT shall participate in rehearsals prior to their week’s worship gathering.

Cycles of Service

Members of the Music Ministry Team are asked to serve, God willing, for a one-year period, at the end of which they may commit for another one-year period or pursue other ministry opportunities.
