Global Engagement Opportunities
Psalms 96:3 says to “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the Peoples!” The nations that the Lord has called us to love are right here in Seattle. International students, immigrants, refugees, and business owners from countries around the world come to live in Seattle each year. We—you and me—can be intentional to love these neighbors by inviting them into our lives and simply sharing God’s goodness with them. This not only impacts how they know God, but it transforms our hearts to align with the Lord’s love for the nations.
If you are interested in serving others through the Global Engagement ministry, keep reading—we have plenty of opportunities for you! If you have questions about any of the opportunities listed below, please contact Jen Foxley.
Eigo Café is a free English program that helps Japanese students practice their English with native English speakers! This is a weekly 1-hour English conversation group based on the school quarter that blesses Japanese people by providing conversation partners and proven curriculum. We are currently looking for conversation partners for Winter quarter starting with the new year. Watch this video and check out www.eigocafe.org for more info.
Sunday Brunch is a monthly gathering in the University district that seeks to provide a space for food and fellowship discussing various cross-cultural life topics. It is our hope that over the experience of cooking, eating, and conversation that natural, yet intentional, connections would form between people from different cultures around the world. This is a great opportunity to serve and love the nations in our city.
Short-Term Global Engagement Trips 2018:
The Hallows Church will be partnering with a few organizations and overseas churches this year to send teams across the globe in hopes to strengthen and encourage the local church and support church planting efforts. We will engage with varying communities to share the love of Christ and strengthen ties to the local ministry for long-term disciple-making opportunities. These trips are designed for members of faith to gain exposure to another culture where God is at work and transform the way they live their lives at home while giving their time and talents abroad.
Mexico: House Building Ministry
June 24th - 30th, 2018
The Hallows Church will partner with Mexico Caravan Ministries (MCM) to participate in a house building ministry in Tijuana, Mexico. A caravan is a church, service, or school group (or any other kind of group for that matter) of 4 to 100 people that comes to Tijuana for anywhere from a day to a week for a hands-on, short-term, cross-cultural missions experience. A caravan comes to meet the needs of the poor, to contribute to the on-going ministry in Tijuana, and to be made into disciples and world Christians. Though there is opportunity to minister to others, the greatest benefit derived from coming to Mexico will be what the Spirit of God does in the lives of caravan participants themselves.
Japan: English Sports and Rec Camp
July 19th - 28th, 2018
The Hallows Church will be partnering with Soma Church, Fuchu to put on a sports and English camp for kids in the community. This trip has seen God move in some great ways in past years that have brought tremendous blessing to our partners in Fuchu, Tokyo to share God's love with the Japanese people.
Central Asia: Storying the Gospel and City Church Planting
September, 2018 (email firstname.lastname@example.org for specific dates)
Nearly all of the Persian peoples who call Central Asia home are unreached. Most Central Asians have no knowledge of biblical Christianity and are unaware that the gospel is good news. We will learn firsthand what God is doing in Central Asia, get a taste of what it is like to be an overseas worker, and see how workers are involved in sharing the Truth with one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. We will explore a variety of ways that teams are building relationships and sharing the gospel in Central Asia including ESL programs, the Arts, and church planting.
May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. Psalms 67:1-2
